I changed my status while here in the U.S. Can I travel abroad in case of an emergency?

Yes. You can always travel. Be mindful, though, that you will need to stop at a consulate to apply for a student visa in order to return to the U.S., and resume classes at Approach. You need the visa stamp in your passport in order to enter the country,  and you can only apply for a visa at a consulate abroad.
